Enhance the mental state you desire and kill noises with this all-in-one app. Binaural beats have been used for a long time to enhance mental states. They work by sending a sound of a different frequency through each ear, which, as they gather, result in a new third frequency in our brain. By sending a certain combination of frequencies, we can 'tune in' our brains, favoring different states as we desire (concentration, relaxation, problem solving...) This app gathers in one single player the main binaural beat frequencies, so you have always available the aid you need to achieve the desired state, whatever it is: *Alpha waves (12hz) - Associated to creativity and a clear mind *Beta waves (20hz) - Related to focus and energy *Gamma waves (40hz) - Spiritual awareness and self control *Delta waves (3hz) - Pain relief and inner peace *Theta waves (7hz) - Problem solving and vitality *Pink noise: useful to block undesired noises and protect sleep. All the tracks last approximately 8 minutes, which can be useful also as an approximative measurement of time that does not distract you while you are concentrated. For maximum effect, listen to the tracks with headphones. Set the player on loop mode for nonstop playing. Published for the first time in a a magazine in 1879, this short novel brought Henry James instant success in life. As all good literary classics, the book remains as grasping and relevant as the day it was written, thanks to its precise, no-frills language, the pace of its plot, and the master strokes with which James describes characters, behaviors, emotions... During a vacation in Switzerland, the American Winterbourne meets the beautiful Daisy Miller, a young American girl, also on vacation with her family. The meeting will change Winterbourne's life forever. Despite its brevity, the book works not only as an amusing read, but also as a bittersweet reflection on human relations, society, and the contrasts between the US and the old continent. 'The Murders in the Rue Morgue', one of Poe's stories featuring the investigator Monsieur Dupin, is widely considered as one of the main precursors of modern crime story. Main proponent of "reasoned mystery", the tale is articulated as a praise of the powers of analytical and systematic method to penetrate the darkest questions. In this case, the whodunit is focused around an unexplained and macabre crime happened one night in a room in Paris. (The 'theme of the closed room' is a classic motif in police literature). Dupin and his friend, the narrator of the story, will explore the event from all the angles in a dialogued form, with only the help of previous days' newspapers, to find out the shocking and unexpected solution to the enigma. The story benefits from Edgar Allan Poe's unique connection to the "dark side", with a tight and well paced relation of the plot, and his stylistic genius to convey oppressive and claustrophobic atmospheres. Its barely 50 pages comprise smart advice on universal matters like sales ("I have always found that, before proceeding to sell goods, I had to sell myself"), project planning, loyalty, leadership... ("You told me what to do, but did not insult my intelligence by telling me how to do it"). With its fast pace and colorful dialogues, you might also get a few laughs along the way. This story shares the atmosphere of works like "Metamorphosis" or "America" that have made Kafka an undisputed classic among the writers of the 20th Century. The reader will find here all the ingredients that are usual in Kafka: a tight structure, where everything happens with the fatality of dreams and is always a bit strange. The struggle of the individual vs society, a society full of complex rules, dehumanized and surrendered to its own bureaucracy. The sparse but crucial narrative details that make the story both tangible and rich in interpretations. A Traveler who's visiting a Penal Colony is "invited" to witness the execution of a prisoner, which is usually carried along through a convoluted machine that takes 12 hours to complete its mission. The Officer who acts as a host does not spare him any detail about the workings of the machine, of which he is the proud caretaker, or the history of executions and previous rulers in the island. Unavoidably, the Traveler will find himself tangled in the internal politics and struggles of power existing in the colony. In a tense, gradual atmosphere, Kafka explores matters so current to us as the finality of technology, its use or abuse, the application of justice, or the utility of punishment. In addition, surprisingly, this short story contains perhaps the most frenetic action scene in the whole production of the author. The app offers off line versions of both the book and the audiobook, which you can even use in a simultaneous way for a better reading experience, and also access to different audio versions that you can download. This translation, which has been prepared by Ian Johnston of Malaspina University-College, Nanaimo, BC, Canada, is in the public domain and may be used by anyone, in whole or in part, without permission and without charge, provided the source is acknowledged, released October 2003.
